Zapruder slow motion video of the Sarich elbow

Here you can see the elbow in slow motion, he plants it directly in the face of Patrick Marleau. Cory Sarich was not penalized on the play.

Hmm, very interesting. At least I can see what the fuss is about now.

Still, what was really key in the Pronger video was the fact that everyone already assumes he's evil.

Still, I'm supportive. Let's get this movement started; I'll start spreading rumors about the evil tendencies of Cory Sarich.

sorry man, that was a clean hit. And just so you know I'm not biased I hate the flames.

If you'll notice, Marleau's head goes back, and to the left...

The elbow stops in mid-air and makes a 45 degree turn...

I think the more that's made out of this hit the more you're providing a built in excuse for why the Sharks will eventually lose, and frankly I'm tired of the excuses. I think it's pretty embarrassing that so many people associated with the organ-eye-zation are making a mountain out of a molehill. Look at the comments from some guys like Rusanowsky and Remenda, and check out some of the "articles" posted on their webpage. I get they are biased, but these rose colored glasses they are wearing make the entire team look completely out of touch with reality. An 82 game regular season is the time to talk about "we have to get prepared for the next game" and "we're loose and we have a lot of character so we'll find a way to get through," not during a 7 game series where you are seriously behind the 8 ball. I don't think it was a particularly dirty hit, and I'm actually a Sharks fan. Besides, whether it was dirty or not doesn't matter. What would it prove if everyone comes out and says the hit was dirty and the NHL suspends Sarich for a game? We still lost game 3 and we still haven't seen anyone other than Matt Carle (?!?!?!) step up and defend our captain. This team just doesn't have the right mentality to take on all comers in any arena, whether its fighting, hitting, skating, or scoring. Clearly this team learned nothing form the Edmonton series and watching Michalek get laid out. Last night, with a three goal lead, was as good a time as you are likely to get to "handle" this type of stuff. There should have been an immediate brawl where Sharks players hit everything in red similar to what broke out in the Nashville series last year, penalties be damned. The next shift should have been Jody Shelley but no, somehow we think we're better than that. If I didn't hate the Flames so much I'd set myself on fire.

Full agreement here. Let's win game four.

Go Sharks.

Well, I do think it was dirty, but if SJ uses this as an excuse for their loss, then that's just sad. If anything this should have pissed them off to actually score some more. This is their achilles heel and while i don't necessarily think that mucking it up is the answer. don't just lay down after scoring 3 goals either.

Hell, I know that Iginla's not afraid of getting rough, but hell if they run our captain, why don't they send McLaren to lay him with a big hip check, or Shelley to just start sh*t. Iginla would take matters in his own hands, and if it means losing Shelley, anytime Iginla's in the box is a good thing.

It's not over, but tomorrow SJ has to make a statement that they will not repeat past mistakes.

Why can't someone argue that a check was illegal without it being evidence that they're using it as an excuse?

Because that's how the Sharks and the fans have been operating in recent years. Look, I'm the first one to call out a cheap shot, and I think the Flamers have a tendency to leave their feet to unleash all those hits on bigger players. I just think the legality of the hit is largely irrelevant to the way in which they responded to the hit. If this team consistently backs away from confrontations like that it doesn't matter how talented anyone thinks they are, themselves included. You just can't out skill people in the playoffs, and if you're not willing to get your hands dirty you might as well not even show up. Over the last 3 years this team has been totally unwilling to do that dirty work and I want them to stop hiding behind what other people are doing and focus on what they are NOT doing. I mean honestly, the game is over, why does it matter whether the hit was cheap or clean? Obviously the Sharks are not willing to do anything about it either way.

The check was illegal, and it is not being used as an excuse.

The way the defense was playing, they would have lost the game anyways.

My concern is more the inequity in the calls. Sarich leaves his feet to elbow Marleau in the head and the Flames get a power play. Yes, the defense is playing soft. Yes, we miss Erhoff. Yes, they probably would have lost. But there is no way there should have been a Flames power play. It turned the game and sent a message to the Flames of how the refs were going to call the game, no matter what the Sharks did.
