McLaren Waived

Just a quick note that TSN has Kyle McLaren on their list of players hitting the waiver wire today. He claims to be healthy, which could mean that some team needing an experienced #4 defenseman could pick him up. His cap hit is $2.5 million, though, and that's enough to make most teams hesitate.

Still, McLaren could help out some of the wackiness going on in Tampa right now.

Update: I did some number crunching over at NHLNumbers. They have the Sharks currently at $225k over the cap. However, that's with only 21 guys and Tomas Plihal and Alexei Semenov's (assumed to be two-way) contracts aren't on there. In addition, if Jeff Friesen makes the roster, you can bet he'll get about 600-700k.

In other words, putting McLaren through re-entry waivers won't do much because that'll still hold the Sharks accountable for $1.25 million.

Why not "Let's Make a Deal"?

Mark down Nov 5th Kings fans, as your beloved will be on an episode of "The Price is Right." Luc Robitaille, Derek Armstrong, Denis Gauthier, Kyle Calder, Dustin Brown and their mascot Bailey will make an appearance with host Drew Carey. (Boy I miss Bob Barker and his pencil thin, long microphone, not to mention all the sex stories about him and Barker's Beauties...but I digress). It will be funny to see Calder playing Plinko or Brown guessing how much a blender costs. They need to have the Sharks, Ducks and Kings on an episode of Family Feud to settle the BOC for real.

For those keeping score, Rob Blake is wearing #5 for the Sharks. That is until Kyle McLaren gets shipped out and Blake can have his number back. I am sure several season ticket holders were surprised to see a guy with McLaren on the back skating around the practice on Tuesday. Don't be alarmed, it was only Frazar McLaren, a rookie goon trying to make the team.

Sharks Gameday: Kyle Mclaren Sucks Edition

SJ Sharks vs. Calgary Flames

Calgary Leads, 1-0

7:00 PST

First things first: I don't give a fuck about the Sharks. Their team is stupid, their fans are stupid, and I hate that stupid shark they bring down before the game. That being said, I'm bored because my team sucks and I hate it when coaches suddenly get retarded during the playoffs. Plus, it's no fun listening to your roommate wander around the apartment muttering, "God damn you Ron Wilson," like some kind of mental patient.

Maybe I'm just thinking about this wrong, but isn't it kind of insane to play both Kyle McLaren and Alexei Semenov (hehe) during game 1? The Sharks are a big team that can't get pushed around, but they're effective because they don't necessarily play physical (with a few exceptions) and they don't take penalties. McLaren took two bad penalties last night that killed the Sharks, so get him the fuck out of there. He got 2 penalties and he only played about 13 minutes! That is ridiculous.

Here's my (uninformed) opinion about what Ron Wilson should do:

-Marc-Edward Vlasic and Craig Rivet play against Jarome Iginla's line
-Brian Campbell plays half the game, usually with Doug Murray (he's from Sweden)
-Matt Carle spells Murray and Rivet when they're tired
-Dress Semenov but don't play him more than 8 minutes

Really folks, this isn't that hard. The Sharks have the last change! Use it! Fuck!

Also, don't try to play physical with Calgary. You're better than them, just skate through them! Don't buy into this playoff bullshit and play your game. Did you see how good you played in the 3rd? Try to play like that. The only player the Sharks should try to rough up is Dion Phaneuf, like they did to Chris Pronger once upon a time. He's a stupid oaf and I guarantee you he will take a stupid penalty. (By the way, why aren't you booing him every time he touches the puck? C'mon, get with it!)

But hey, what the fuck do I know, I'm just a Kings fan. I'm sure you Sharks people know what you're doing, as evidenced by your many years of deep playoff play. All I know is that I hate the Calgary Flames and you're making them look good. Stop it.

Prediction: Ron Wilson takes my advice; Sharks lose 10-0. Meg rips out my small intestine.

Sharks vs Ottawa Senators photos

Here are a few photos from the Sharks 3-2 overtime win over the Ottawa Senators.

Patrick Marleau is starting to roll. His overtime game winner against Ottawa stretched the Sharks winning streak to 7 games, vaulted the Sharks over Anaheim for 4th place in the Western Conference, and brought the Sharks within 3 points of Pacific-leading Dallas with 3 games in hand. The Sharks captain and oft-lamented trade rumor magnet scored 3 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 games, registering a +4 in that span.

Sharks head coach Ron Wilson strongly noted Marleau's recent turnaround to the media after the game, and said that a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders after the trade deadline expired without him being moved. Wilson also cracked on unidentified hockey reporter (allegedly Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun), for floating a number of foolish Marleau trade rumors. Wilson said that unidentified hockey reporter (allegedly Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun) was too afraid to come to the Sharks side of the post-game press conference and face the music for being so off base.

More photos and notes from Ottawa vs San Jose here.

Sports Illustrated asked NHL players to rank hockey fans by city. Montreal was overwhelmingly named the city with the best fans garnering 35% of the votes. Minnesota was second with 13%, Calgary third with 11%. Only California team to make the top ten... also the second best U.S. based fans according to NHL players... the San Jose Sharks in a 6th placed tie with Toronto at 5%.

Marleau Should Be Mentioned In Trade Rumors All The Time

Yes it is only one game but it looks like something has lit a fire under captain Marleau. If you missed it, internet buzz picked up a possible Sharks/Canadians trade involving Marleau, Bernier, and Pavelski from the Sharks and Koivu, Ryder and others from the Canadians. What made these rumors interesting was that they were attributed to well known hockey insider Bob Mckenzie. Mckenzie even had to come out and refute his involvement in these rumors. Even the newspaper in San Jose had an article on these rumors. Whatever the cause, Marleau really came to play tonight. I made a point of watching him tonight and he did something I yell at him to do nightly....skate. Marleau is at his best when he uses his speed offensively and defensively. Just hope he continues this style of play.

On the other hand, what the hell is wrong with Kyle McLaren? Yes I realize his grandmother just passed away, but he just has not looked like himself this year. I don't remember one time where he has used his trademark hip check this year. Tonight he coughed up the puck at least 4 times that I remembered. Even Ron Wilson made him a healthy scratch for the first time in his Sharks career last week. McLaren needs to be the physical presence that the Sharks are lacking on the backend. Shoot, maybe I should start a rumor about McLaren being shopped to the Penguins to wake him up. McLaren for Ryan Malone...kidding
