Brad Stuart Re-Signs With Detroit

4 years, $3.75/year. This is weird; does this mean that Ken Holland actually made a bad decision, or does this mean I'm an idiot for thinking Brad Stuart sucked? I guess he fits in well with the Red Wings because he can run around doing whatever while the rest of the team plays perfect defense. Oh well, I'll just assume I'm smarter than Ken Holland. I mean, he didn't get promoted to late-shift manager at 7/11 in only 3 years, did he? I think that's some kind of record.

I think you're looking at Stewart from a different angle... In Detroit, he'll need to compete to make the #4 spot. In LA he would have been expected to be much more.

Thanks anonymous. Why?

Detroit can always afford to spend a bit more on its blueline so long as their goalies come in awfully cheap (screw you, Osgood!).

It's a bit sizeable for their third-highest paid defenseman, sure, but knowing Detroit, it will probably never come back and bite them in the ass (screw you, Detroit!).

Oh, and screw you, anonymous.

Stewart is a good fit for the role that's expected of him in Detroit. The wings now have a decent physical defense pairing in Kronwall/Stewart.

I always thought Stuart's best-fit role was as a "centerpiece" in lop-sided trades.

I'm seeing Stuart, Filppula and McCarty to Atlanta for Kovalchuk.

All part of Holland's master plan...

$3.75 million? That's like $3.75 million per kidney!

But seriously, almost $4 million for a 4-5 D? Seems a bit much, but to each there own. (and like Earl said, the Red Wings have an uncanny ability to make the dumbest choices but never have it bite them; it's bizarre)

I did always like Stuart and had great hope for him, but he never got to the point where he could be a top 2 D. He'll be fine in Detroit if he doesn't have to be "the guy." Good for him for getting a fit.

Rudy, as someone who has likely squandered his career earning potential by going to grad school, can you tell me if I need a special degree in business, maybe an MBA, to make late-shift manager at 7/11? Or with a lot of diligence and pluck, will I make it there eventually, maybe in 5-10 years?

I just need options when I hit the Ph.D. job market in the next year or two and have to compete with 400 other applicants for positions at such desirable locales as Upper Midwest Rural College of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry in scenic Nowhereville, USA, home to the biannual Old Morganberry Days!
