The Kings Don't Want Your Detritus, Part II
You know that stupid rumor Dubcek covered yesterday? The one reported on Hockeybuzz, that was completely retarded and obviously made up? Apparently, the Ottawa Sun think it's good enough to go with. The trade?
Chicago gets: Anze Kopitar
Ottawa gets: Nikolai Khabibulin, Brent Seabrook/Cam Barker
LA gets: Andrej Meszaros, Martin Gerber
Puck Daddy does a good job skewering this trade ("Why in the name of Mike Milbury would the Los Angeles Kings do anything with this trade offer except drop the phone in uncontrollable laughter?"), but I can't get over how bad this trade is. It's kind of depressing, in a way, that someone would actually think Kopitar is worth Andrej Meszaros and Martin Gerber. I mean, really? He's 21 years-old and he's probably the best young player in the NHL outside of the Big 3 and he's worth a shitty goalie and a pretty good young defenseman? Weird. Maybe I need to start putting up flyers around Ottawa or something.
We should all be warned, too, that this is the beginning. From now on, we're going to see stupid "Does Kopitar want to stay in LA?" rumors and half-assed $.30 cents-on-dollar trades for Kopitar until he signs a new deal. "Why is Lombardi trading Kopitar?" "Would this deal work?" "You should take this deal because Kopitar will get tired of losing soon." It'll probably happen for Johnson as well. Bunker down, folks; it's going to be a long year.

You should probably have called this one "The Kings Don't Want Your Detritus (except to fill our head coaching vacancy)".
Can BoC get united on Schneider-for-Kopitar already? :)
Also, it's probable that I'm just not thinking clearly, but can anyone tell me what the last NHL trade was that actually took roster players and relocated them among three teams?
I think that aspect of the rumo(u)r is far-fetched, without even throwing names into the equation.
OK, this tears it. We need to start fabricating some rumors that benefit our BoC teams so they can "get legs" and subject fan bases in those other markets to the same sort of fury and panic.
I nominate:
L.A. gets: Patrick Kane
Ottawa gets: Tom Preissing, Brian Boyle/Ted Purcell
Chicago gets: Antoine Vermette
I'm sure this will be in the Ottawa Sun by Friday.
I think the problem is that:
1) The Kings weren't good, so people assume their players suck, and
2) we're on the west coast and no one watches our games.
This trade will happen.. it just will. The Kings are.. well, they're the Kings. It'll happen before next week, just you watch
This is probably just a case of overcompensation in Ottawa after weeks of hearing about how their team is looking to fill their defensive depth with a) Schneider's contract or b) McLaren's bad knees.
That would make me a little punchy too.
Well, similar to last year, the Ducks are starting their season with a good ol' fashioned BoC battle.
Three differences:
1. No England this time.
2. No September this time.
3. No Kings this time.
Link. Apparently a full schedule is due out tomorrow.
Haha, the Kings face Rob Blake and the San Jose Sharks in their home opener. The chorus of boos will cause an earthquake.
I too had a "Whaaaaa?" moment when reading the article but then I remembered it's the Ottawa Sun and they're the equivalent of a tabloid so it doesn't really matter unless you're the kind that believes everything the National Enquirer writes.
Here is my favorite line from that article in the Nottawa Sun.
On the surface, it seems the deal could be a rare win-win-win
Now thats funny shit. They really beleive it too.
I just heard from a guy who knows a guy that Kelly Hrudey is coming out of retirement to play goal for the Kings again. E3.
