Steve Montador is a Duck

According to Hockeybuzz Steve Montador signed a $900k contract. Montador is a defenseman, who recently played for Florida.

This move is expected to be a sure sign Schneider will be moved.

Anybody know anything about Montador?

He was on the Flames team that ran to the finals, for what it's worth.

I added the Hockeybuzz link (since you referenced it), but I'll warn you. It might be considered tampering.

Also, fyi, OC Register blog is saying it's around $800k.

Even better.

As has been said, he was on the Flames during the cup run of '04. He was very well liked in Calgary by players and fans. He was traded to Florida for Kristian Huselius.

He also was involved with Right to Play with Andrew Ference and went to Tanzania to support it with A-Fence (IIRC, he was also a big part of the 1 hour documentary about Right To Play that aired on the NHL Network and TSN last year).

On a personal level, a colleague of mine was his defensive partner for North Bay in the OHL in the late 90s and speaks very highly of him on a personal level as well.

But perhaps most importantly, he had a career season last year and didn't only play defense for Florida -- he was sometimes a winger.

The NHLPA site is still listing Montador as unsigned by Florida. If is being pursued by the Ducks, nothing has been finalized as of yet.

tough & reliable blueliner, a steal if signed under $1M.

Isn't a Montador a prehistoric animal... or is that a Mastodon...
