Kings Round-Up

Think you're not going to have anything to read about the Kings because it's September? Think again, asshole!

Inside the Kings GM Meeting Quotes

Rich Hammond has been posting quotes from Dean Lombardi, Assistant GM Ron Hextall, cap guru Jeff Solomon, and head coach Terry Murray have been talking, and talking, and talking about pretty much everything to do with the Kings. What I've found most interesting is Terry Murray's quotes about how to develop a defenseman. He highlights the importance of working as a unit and using forwards to make decisions with the puck. The Kings didn't really pass the puck out of their zone last season, instead mostly relying on one player to skate the puck to the red line. That leaves the team open to turnovers so I am glad to see that'll change this upcoming season.

Also interesting: Lombardi admits that he signed too many free agents because he was worried about catching Anaheim the past 2 seasons. He also notes that the Kings backed off prime free agents. I knew it.

Oh, and he talks about bridge players and notes how the bridge players he brought in dominated the locker room too much and hurt chemistry. Since Handzus, Calder and Preissing are still with the team and Brad Stuart is still young, that means he's talking about either Rob Blake or Ladislav Nagy. I wonder which.

Non-Kings Update: TJ Simers has a new article in the Times today, entitled, "San Diego is a town filled with losers." That's awesome.

You know, even I've been checking out Inside the Kings lately -- that Hammond fellow is quite the workhorse.

The Lombardi self-evaluation interview was pretty fascinating, though wordy. I'm not quite sure though if he should apologize for trying too hard to catch the Ducks, though. I'd assume that's a big priority for most Kings fans, and it's never bad if the GM is in line with the fans' wishes.

It's too bad the Kings to Kansas City rumors won't be put to rest, even after team management flat out said it won't happen.

And, of course, word that AEG is buying the San Diego Sports Arena is getting those Kings relocation rumors churning anew.

So, here's my question for Kings fans: if the team had to leave Los Angeles, where would you want them to relocate?

It wouldn't matter, I only cheer for LA.

A hockey team in Tiajuana would be awesome.

Hooray, more Schneider-to-L.A. rumor mentions! Maybe this is the week.

Here's how I'd rate those options:

Mathieu Schneider
Jay McKee
Greg De Vries
Karlis Skrastins
Gonorrhea
Kyle McLaren

Well, one thing Gonorrhea has going for it is that it never wore a frighteningly homosexual yellow visor.

Probably burns a little more though.

Another upside to Gonorrhea- it won't cost you 2.5 million dollars a year. In fact if the Kings relocate to Tiajuana, I think you just might get your wish Rudy.

Nice article over at Pensblog by the way. Shit made me giggle.

...the bridge players he brought in dominated the locker room...

I didn't know playing bridge could be that disruptive.

Lol, CJ.

It was all that damn doubling and re-doubling.

"If only the yokels had what it takes to make it up north, and enjoy what the Dodgers, Angels, Lakers and Trojans have to offer. But I guess somebody has to live down here."

Not only is Simers a San Diego hater he doesn't think much of hockey....the Kings and Ducks didn't even rate a mention.
