I think Stuart is a DMan. But aside from that. Most of the Duck deals make me go huh?

Bergeron appears to be a power play specialist which I don't see the Ducks needing when they have 4 defensemen who can play on the power play competently. Is Pronger's jaw situation that serious?

Never even heard of Leach.

And if the whole point of getting rid of Bryzgalov was to free up money and that Hiller was sufficient is true, then why go and get Aubin who's contract I don't know the details of. Bryzgalov was dumped because he put pressure on Giguere for the #1 spot and Burke and Giguere didn't like that and this is just more evidence. But why not keep Bryzgalov around til trade deadline at least and use him as trade bait. Are you telling me Tampa wouldn't have been interested Bryzgalov for Richards, whose contract does suck but oh well? Instead of making Phoenix a playoff contender.

As far as shipping Bochenski, I can't disagree with it because the 4th line is pretty full right now and Bochenski is not a 2nd line player. But on the other hand it seems like he wasn't given much of a chance. Maybe there is more to it.

To sum up, the Ducks needed a second line forward and they didn't get one.

You're right Bryan, Stuart is a D-man. I like what the Kings and Sharks did. I'm not really sure what the Ducks accomplished. Montreal made the worst move of the day, hands down!

OK, I fixed that. Don't be too hard on Mirtle, though. This is only his second BoC post, so he's kind of new.

Well, the Ducks got decidedly more French-Canadien; other than that, not very much.

Did it have Stuart as a forward or something? I just took the data right off the NHL presser.

Yeah, Stuart was an F, but you might have just been grading him.

And there's no Rob Davison listed, but that's not worth nitpicking.

I have failed.

Bryan, waiving Bryz wasn't 100% because of "getting rid of money". Because Hiller's cap hit isn't exactly light. Burke has explained why he did what he did back then many times. It wasn't because he put pressure on Giguere. Ducks signed Giguere to the big contract in the offseason, there was no question or pressure from Bryz as to who was #1 on this team once they signed Giguere to that big contract. Burke made a promise to Bryz, and he kept it. Personally, I think that means a lot more to potential free agents out there then some 3rd or 4th round draft pick we *might* have gotten for Bryz.

Burke answers questions from media after deadline:

Pretty concise. JS Aubin was for playoff depth in case Giggy or Hiller got hurt. Bergeron was also for playoff depth, much like Jackman last yr. (Sounds like Burke isn't a big fan of the small turn over machine, but had to settle for him).

Prongs had surgery today for small fracture. Probably played a part in Bergeron. Weight and Marchant should be ready for next game, so no callups necessary.

Most interesting, is that Burke said if there is a hole in top 6, Ryan will fill it ... guess he'll be back up once we get close to the playoffs.

A "friend" told me the Kings wanted the Ducks #1 this yr (EDM's #1), Brian Salcido & another player for the Rob Blake rental... no wonder Blake didn't go anywhere.

At those prices, the Kings have done all they can to ensure they don't make the playoffs this year, next year or the year after.

Obviously the contract said Giguere was #1, but their play did not. And I know Burke promised to move Bryz, but he also should have gotten something for him. Why the Kings turned him down is beyond all reasoning. Once again, what is the point of adding depth on defense when the Ducks don't have a legitimate 2nd line center.

bergeron and pronger was a pretty good defense pairing in edmonton

None of us know what's going through Burke's head, but from his press conference, he thinks Weight can still be that 2nd line center once he's healed up.

Def depth? I point you to Ric Jackman and the inevitable 2 game suspension Toothy McGap will no doubt be receiving once the Ducks hit the playoffs.
