Check out Bob Miller's book for his recollection of how in the mid-1970s Kings owner Jack Kent Cooke tried to get Miller to work in a sponsor in the middle of play by saying "Marcel Dionne was scooting like a Datsun." Fortunately, Miller had the gumption to shoot it down and pass off the "Datsun scoreboard" as a substitute.
So it would be bad, but it could certainly be worse.
Yeah, selling out labels isn't new for the league, but it's still a bit different, I'd say. Marcel Dionne wasn't the black eye for hockey that headshots are.
