Kings Gameday: What's Up With Vancouver?

LA Kings (gah!) vs. Vancouver Canucks (34-24-10, 8th in West)

7:30 EST, FSN Prime Ticket

Can someone help me out? Usually when we play a Canadian team I like to make fun of the area (because I'm a winner), but I don't really know what's up with Vancouver. I've heard that they're more cosmopolitan than the rest of Canada (they don't wear denim on holidays?), but I've also heard that about Montreal. What's their deal?

Even their team is kind of boring. They don't score very much, the Sedin twins look like the most boring people in the world, Luongo is great but he's mostly just huge, Matt Cooke got traded, etc. Hell, I can't even be angry that they're better than us since they haven't beaten us this season! I can't make fun of them, and I hate that. The only thing that really made me laugh was during the trade dealine when I heard a few of their fans saying they didn't need defense because they had Aaron Miller and Mike Weaver. (Trust me, you guys need defense.)

Anyway, if you've been to Vancouver or if you just don't like them because you're bitter, let me know in the comments. 'Til then, I'll just have to keep noting that Roberto Luongo looks like a Bond villain, but even that's not that much fun.

The Kings had their big Breakfast with the GM extravaganza yesterday and Dean Lombardi talked a lot about the future of the team. Big points: he didn't sound too excited about Stamkos, he wasn't thrilled with last year's free-agent signings, and he wants a young defenseman this off-season. If you feel like it, go over to letsgokings.com's message boards to read a transcript.

Prediction: Kings win, 4-2. Goals by Cammy, Brown (x2), and Armstrong. Vancouver does... something. Damn.

Update: Pop quiz, hot shot: what sport is this passage talking about?

"Alberta's Kevin Martin took advantage of a Saskatchewan miss to steal a crucial early point in a 7-4 win that handed Pat Simmons' rink its first loss at the Tim Hortons Brier on Monday."

Hint: This Adonis is Kevin Martin:

Extra Hint: It was on the front page of TSN.ca. Give up? It's curling! On the front page! I love Canada.

I spent two weeks in Vancouver once, but I haven't spent any real time in any other Canadian city, so it's tough to say whether it's more or less cosmopolitan.

It's a pretty cool city to visit, though, and I think Canuck fans are pretty fun to hang out with. Mainly my issue with that franchise was their haste to kick Brian Burke to the curb, but I'm sure that they're aware how silly that move looks now.

Maybe this is a better question: who's more likable, San Jose or Vancouver? I can't find a real reason to dislike either team.

Well, the two main things you ought to know about Vancouver are 1) It's always raining there and 2) Apparently everybody there is high (or at least the city has a drug problem).

Oh and the 2010 Winter Olympics are going to be there.

I like Vancouver for every reason except actually being there. I like that they took Aaron Miller (even if it was thru free agency). I like that they haven't beaten the Kings all year and I like that if they miss the playoffs, that is the first place they are going to look as to why they didn't make it.

There is a lot of cheap weed in Vancouver (if you can find someone who'd rather sell than smoke), and it's rainy and shitty all the time. I go to school in Oregon, but I have a lot of good friends who live in Vancouver, so I'm a frequent visitor.

Since I don't smoke, I usually just partake in the lower drinking age and make fun of Canucks fans.

We're not ALWAYS high. Just most of the time :P I really hope we somehow manage to beat you once this season...but my hopes are low. As every good Canuck fan's hopes should be.

Cloutier is getting the start tonight. Thank God for Vancouver papers because you know the LA papers weren't going to tell us.

I bet the Kings requested that the papers not report on Cloutier starting. They didn't want ticketholders to all try to unload their tickets midday.

Still, if the Kings are going to be playing Cloutier, I think it's only fair that the Canucks go out and try to find-and-sign Cechmanek for a day, just to be sporting.

That must be awesome for Canuck fans to see the horrible goalie you were lucky enough to get rid of to some idiot come back and play, for that other team. Especailly when you now have the best goalie in the league. Can you imagine if we traded Cloutier and then got to see US score a goal on him from center ice? Man, that would be great. Of course, every time we get a horrible goalie, his career ends with us (Chechmanek, probably Aubin and Cloutier). Fucking Kings.

Do you think Vancouver's missing Dan Cloutier now?!?!?!?!?!?!?

No, I don't think so either.
