The Real Election

Well, now that that whole Presidential Something-or-Other is over with, we should get to the election that really matters: the 2009 NHL All-Star Game. And yes, while Patrick Marleau, Evgeni Nabokov, and Joe Thornton are on the ballot, there's one fellow who I think is showing All-Star chops early on.

Did you have an Obama 08 or McCain Country First sticker on your car? It's time to throw those out because here's the official start of Vote Setoguchi 09. It's going to have to be a write-in vote, but thanks to the magic of the inter-tubes and text messaging, we can manipulate, erm, boost the results to give us all the Chomp We Need. After all, it's Sharks Territory First.

Voting begins November 12th.

Don't forget that back-stabbing Rob Blake! :)

Teemu, Corey Perry are also missing and that's an outrage. Kyle Calder is also missing, but that's not so much an outrage.

I think the NHL is continuing its 3-for-1 Ducks policy. If Getzlaf gets voted into the starting lineup, by the second period he will transform into Teemu Selanne and then will play the third period as Corey Perry.

Only east-coasters get thought of as separate individuals, silly.

Oh, that is awesome. I added it to the post.

Please, feel free to send in more. I love laziness!

can do.

If Setoguchi keeps playing the way he has till January, I see no reason why he can't be my write-in vote. But could you think about changing the poster?
According to urban dictionary, 'gooch' is that area between the nuts and the ass.

But could you think about changing the poster?

I'm such a sucker for sensitive Sharks fans.

If you're more a pro-gooch person, though, you can still get to Jonny W's original poster here.

I preferred Jonny W's poster and nickname over "Seto"
it just doesn't ring as well.

Chen, start a nickname/poster poll :)

yeah... technically, and i thought about using 'Seto', but its kind of a lame nickname.

'Seto' doesn't live up to other great Sharks nicknames like: Clowey, Soupy [Sorry to envoke that name], and Pickles.
I believe "Gooch" does

Plus, imagine the possible line names: Gooch-and-Goc or Gooch-and-Cheech!

It flows so much better!!!

Who the hell says Seto? I've always yelled Gooch anytime the kid starts a game, scores a goal, etc. And I've never heard anybody even suggest Seto and it sounds hella (Norcal, deal with it) lame!

Who the hell says Seto?

Gooch-haters, apparently. I didn't make that up -- it's a nickname I've heard from a bunch of Sharks fans.

We'd better square up this nickname debacle soon, or probably this whole campaign is screwed.

I've always used Seto thanks to the aforementioned anatomical reference. Actually, I think I've only heard Seto amongst my friends, but that could just be me.

When I was on LCS Hockey, one of the hosts said "Gooch and Cheech...sounds like a bad 70s sitcom."

I think if you have the opportunity to yell, "Gooch!" in a public place, you should take it.

But if Patrick Marleau is already making the All-Star game on the back of Joe Thornton, isn't it unfair to demand Gooch makes it too? I think there needs to be a rule that only one forward is allowed to get undeserved credit thanks to Joe.

They are not booing, they are saying Goooooooo-cccchh.

Marleau isn't making it on the back of anyone, he is carrying people right now. Ehrhoff is playing better than Boyle and Blake right now, playing better than a lot of defenseman. Marleau, Nabokov, Ehrhoff, Setoguchi and Clowe should be nominated in that order.

Being first in the NHL and having the top offense has its privileges.

Yeah, but playing on the west coast negates nearly all of them.

I'd bet there's plenty of hockey fans who have never even heard the name "Setoguchi" before, let alone its derivations.

And that's why we need to get him into the All-Star Game!

Gooch is catchier than Seto, but that anatomical reference is just killing me.

If we nominate Ehrhoff as a write-in vote, instead of Seto, and I totally think he deserves it-- I think we could all easily agree with "The Hoff" for '09 as being very catchy.

I almost punched a guy i'm friends with last night at a bar in Campbell because he wouldn't stop saying Seto. So annoying!!!!

No preference from me, but Torrey Mitchell uses "Seto."

Setoguchi has always done well since coming to the sharks team last season, i was sad when they put him back down to the minors temporarily. He definitely has my vote for the allstar game.

Having him and Plihal this season was a great move by McLellan, he must have seen the great potential in both of those players.

And as good as Ehrhoff has been doing this season, dont forgot that was he completely AWFUL in the playoffs last season and was one of the main factors of why we lost the playoffs.

Boyle and Blake ARE the better candidates for defensemen
