Whoa...

Well, so much for the Kings picking up Roberto Luongo. The stud goaltender was sent to the Canucks for Todd the Neckbreaker, Bryan Allen and Alex Bauld. The Canucks also got Krajicek, who happens to be a perennial 79 in the NHL 2k games.

Considering Bertuzzi's PR-implications off the ice and middling effort on it, this is a huge victory for the Canucks. From what I've read, they're saving about $2 million off the cap, which they'd be well-advised to spend on Anson Carter and some depth throughout their lineup.

In other big trade news, The Orbs of Power might, in fact, be in the vice grip of the Yoko Ono of hockey, Lauren Pronger. Apparently, the Hilton-ish daughter of a Mo. rich man doesn't really appreciate dealing with the yokels of Whyte Ave.

The details, are honestly, still pretty sketchy. But considering the fact that the Oilers alreadly have 9 free agents, it looks like the Cinderella Run they had might be short lived. Not exactly bad news for anyone in the Battle of Cali, especially the two California teams that were squashed like some kind of bug under Pronger's big boot.

I shared this sentiment about Luongo, and I'll do it again for Pronger: if there's any way the Kings can convince #44 to suit up in LA, they sure has hell need to make it happen. I have a hard time believing that the Kings would rank in the lower depths of PK and powerplay if they had the Norris and Hart trophy winner on their squad.

Anyway, I should have some thoughts on the NHL Draft this afternoon/tonight, as it will have an impact on the Kings (no. 1o) and my other team, The Penguins (no. 2).

I wonder if the King's offer of Garon, Frolov and Brown for Luongo was true. It pales in comparison to what the Panthers got from the Canucks.

LA could probably acquire the orbs for some sort of package that figured around Frolov. I think the Oilers would also want a defensemen of some sort and a fairly good prospect as well.

The asking pice the Oilers brass has floated to the media was havlat, phillips and Lee (apparantly a good prospect Ottawa has). I think for LA that would mean Frolov, a top 4 defensemen (Visnovsky, Corvo, Sopple) and O'Sullivan or another potentially good prospect. Sopple might be attractive as he's well known here after his long stint with the Canucks and he's from Saskatoon which isn't terribly far away. Although truthfully Corvo and Visnovsky would likely be better options, Oiler fans are a bit paranoid about people hating Edmonton at the moment and who doesn't like localish players.

On the other hand in return you possibly get the most dominant defensemen in the game today..because for some reason or another his wife has demanded he leave Edmonton and your can take your pick of the various charitable to uncharitable explainations for that. But I get the impression Lowe will simply wait until he gets what he considers a fair offer to make a move.

First Janet Jone and now Lauren Pronger. They knew when they married hockey players that they would probably have to move! Poor Lauren! So go ahead, be selfish and put your husband in a bad position and leave a city heart broken and very angry at your husband! You won't be hearing the cheers you would have expected when Pronger steps on the ice in Edmonton next!

Peter Pocklington needed cash. The Gretzky trade had alot more to do with that than his wife.

LA can most likely thank her for Gretzky coming here, though.
