Here's a streak to worry about, Sens fans

With the Ducks winning both their games at Honda Center, I’m sure the Ottawa Senators are feeling the pressure to return the favor for two games at Scotiabank Place. And they probably should be, considering that in each series this playoffs, whichever team first faced elimination lost.

But I’ll warn you, ticketholders of Ottawa, these Ducks know a thing or two about winning in tough-to-play-in buildings. Here’s the list of teams Carlyle’s Ducks have faced in the playoffs this year and last, and the road record for each series.

Year

RoundOpponentRoad Record

2006

1

Calgary

2 – 2

2006

2

Colorado

2 – 0

2006

3

Edmonton

1 – 1

2007

1

Minnesota

1 – 1

2007

2

Vancouver

2 – 0

2007

3

Detroit

2 – 1

6 series

10 – 5

That’s a pretty tough set of buildings to play in, all situated a great distance away from Anaheim, yet the Ducks have gotten a road split or better in every series Carlyle has coached.

His Ducks are pretty road-playoff-tested, for sure. They've heard the big crowds. They've dealt with forced line-matches. They've hung in games and found ways to win.

The only question that matters now is: will it happen again?

Go Ducks.

You ever see that fat guy who shows up at Scotiabank Place, shirtless and painted red? It's terrifying. He could be a deciding psych-out factor for the Ducks.

Margee, the best part is, there's usually more than one of them.

but have you ever seen that drunk guy that shows up in Honda Center? He dresses in the Green Shirt that seemingly hasn't been washed in years......That my friend is enough to scare even the toughest away.....

Last time i saw in on TV I felt like I needed to spork (You know plastic half fork half spoon) my eye's out.....

Heh, that man clearly must be stopped. He's killing the TV ratings with his forced eye gougings.

Damn you, Earl. You've become remarkably adept at ruining my day...

Somebody quickly confiscate this guy's spork.

You'd think by now the only streak Ottawa fans would be concerned with is the streak that "Ottawa always chokes in the playoffs".

Getting swept in the SCFs is the culmination of what has been a choke-free postseason.

Have you seen the ass that the cameras seem to focus on everytime whenever the Ducks score a goal with the finger pistol action going? Yeah... would not mind seeing that guy dumped over the railing into the path of a zamboni ^_^

Ducks have been good on the road but I can't think of another team where line matchups matter so much than Ottawa. I would hate to have Jackman and Huskins out against Ottawa's big lines. I expect they will only see ice time immediately after Alfie's shifts. Then again if I'm Murray I double shift my guys so they can go against Jackman and Huskins. To combat that, if I'm Carlyle, I have Beauchemin, Pronger or Niedermayer on the ice at all times.

Really? I mean, I don't watch much east coast, but it seems to me that a lot of these teams I've listed have some pretty dominant top lines to be wary of (and probably coaches who are better adept at getting line matches also, at least from what I've seen from Murray in G1 and G2).

I gotta say I think Carlyle's up to the task. Ducks have been line matching pretty hard since the start of the year, and so long as its one line that needs to be focused on, I think the Ducks will for the most part get their match-up. The team is really practiced when it comes to changing lines right off a faceoff.

Yeah, they'll get caught a few times a game, but I don't think it's going to be a whopping difference based on what I've seen in the past.

Yes! That guy drives me nuts!!! Despite my joy (b/c of the Ducks' goal), I want to yank those earbuds outta his head and smack him upside the head for grandstanding.

While you don't explicitly say it, the Ducks haven't lost back-to-back road games since SCF in 2003. Great analysis Earl!
