I love it when a plan comes together!!!

Who was your favorite player to lift the Cup tonight? Who was your least favorite?

Happy for Anaheim? Or did the world just end for you tonight?

Congratulations? Curses?

Feel free to discuss. Meanwhile, I've got some business to attend to:

Way to go, Ducks.

Congratulations, Sleek! I'm not happy it was the Ducks, but what can you do? I'm happier for you than for them.

You'll need to keep posting all summer, letting us know how it feels.

I was a rookie fan when the Stars won in '99, and like rookies who win the Cup, I didn't realize you don't get a shot at it every year. Now I need another one so I can be more careful to enjoy it.

Okay, okay. Congrats to the Ducks, too (except Pronger).

The Ducks definitely deserved to win that series. I couldn't believe S.Niedermayer was the only player to have won the Cup before.

I most enjoyed seeing Teemu Selanne lift the Cup and he definitely got really emotional after the game. I surprisingly enjoyed watching all the Ducks' players lift the Cup (except for Pronger- yuck).

Congrats to the Ducks on a great regular season and postseason. Earl- you've done a great job on Battle of California!

Hope you have fun celebrating tonight!

  7. The world has ended for me tonight!!! This is the greatest.

  8. Congratulations, Earl - those last five minutes are a thrill, aren't they? I was there in 1997 when the Red Wings ended 42 years of darkness, and watching the end of tonight's game brought those memories back...

  9. Congrats. I'm actually surprisingly calm about all of this. Maybe because I didn't watch it.

Just as long as somebody buys me a drink next time and we'll call it even

I would echo the forechecker. As the clock wound down tonight I was remembering 1997.... Congratulations to the Ducks on a hard fought series. Favorite player to hoist the Cup tonight, Selanne. Least favorite, Pronger. I am a little puzzled why S. Nieds got the Conn. Thought there were other players more deserving. Congratulations and enjoy the celebrations!

  14. Best Player: Scott
    Best Moment: Scott to Rob

I considered the Ducks to be the league benchmark the whole season and they proved me right.

Congratulations Earl (and all Ducks/Duck fans)!

  15. Hearty congratulations. Favorite to see lift? Selanne -- I forced the people in the bar around me to go quiet for that. After that, the much-maligned Pronger.

Why did no one name Earl or the lucky green shirt for the Conn Smythe? This blog has been entertaining and informative. Way to go. I don't think I've ever been anywhere as loud as the Honda Center was tonight. The Ducks dominated what appeared as a very defeated Sens team the entire game. I was most proud that the Ducks never once fell back on their heels. Seeing Selanne lift the Cup was the highlight and seeing all their kids on the bench watching. Thanks for a great post-season, Earl.

  19. Congrats Sleek...live it up for the rest of us. And remember the moment...some of us are still waiting for our team to even get there. Sigh. Cry. Drink. Repeat...ugh. :)

  20. Sorry that last one was me...thanks google.

  21. I never was a big Selanne fan, so I'd say Scott passing it to his bro was the best. Mamma Niedermayer is getting drunk tonight!
    Sleek, how is your liver?

Helsingin Sanomat has a compilation of pictures of Teemu from junior to today. My God what a babyface he was.

  23. Favourites: The brothers Niedermayer, for carpooling to the rink in a hybrid.
Unfavourite: Corey Perry, for his diving antics in the '05 Memorial Cup. Plus every time I hear the name Corey I think Haim/Feldman.

The best moment of the night was hearing the home crowd boo Bettman.
Next was seeing the team get their moment with the Cup without their entire extended families immediately rushing the ice.
Alfredsson's goal was pretty sweet too.

    Congrats!

I'm at work... and I think I'm still slightly buzzed from all the drinking and celebrating last night.

Co-worker told me that last night he was down on Main Street in Huntington and when the game was over all of the bars went nuts...
My street for the most part was quiet with the exception of some guy across the street and the group of people who had gathered in my place for the game.

Best moment of the night for me was seeing Selanne being really emotional over this whole thing. Bastard got me tearing up...

    Favorite: Selanne, Gigère

Least Fav: Brad May, and Brian Burke

As a Cali hockey fan growing up (Kings) and as an adult (Sharks) I'm glad to see the Cup come to California, but sorry it was not to my team. Congratulations, Ducks and Ducks fans! Your team's been dominant all year, and I can only imagine how good that feels. Enjoy!

  32. congratulations, sleek, they earned it. i'm not entirely sure i'm happy for the ducks, but i'm happy for you and your binge-drinking.

  33. Congrats Sleek and all Anaheim Ducks fans - I enjoyed following your playoff run and was thrilled to be at the game last night. While I would have preferred to see the Sharks lifting the cup in California first, you guys deserved to lift it last night. Enjoy it.

  34. Beginning of the season I put 50 straight on the Ducks at 15/1. Monesy aside, this is the greatest hockey moment in my life. And I'm not even a player. This is more exciting than any hockey league or tournament I've been in. More exciting than my first ever game at the forum (there were no Ducks back then). More exciting opening night. (We got rocked by Detroit)

I was huge on Pahlson winning the
Smythe but I cannot argue with Niedermayer. His leadership and steadiness on the ice has been huge all post season especially in the games Pronger was gone. He has 2 Ot winners and the Duck's biggest goal of the postseason. He's won the cup 3 times with no Smythe, being in Stevens's shadow. Signing with the Ducks after the lockout to play with his brother made the Duck's a legit contender. So I respect the decision to give him the award based on everything he's done for the team.

Seeing Selanne hoist the cup was great, he's always been my favorite Duck, from the moment we got him for Tverdovsky?? and Kilger?????. Kariya left the Ducks to go win a cup in Colorado, dragging an injured Selanne along, but after the lockout, it was Selanne who returned for 1 million to play and these last 2 seasons have shown that he is one of the best goal scorers I have ever gotten to see play the game.

Another great moment was seeing Pahlson, Niedermayer and Moen holding the cup together. Hope everyone is at the rally on Saturday.

Thanks to Sleek for this site. It is entertaining and informative. Great place for hockey players from everywhere to hang out.

  38. Thanks, everyone, for the nice words. Makin' me blush.

Sherry, I'll buy you a night full of drinks and still probably owe you.

John, I have no idea how to get a hold of you, but you have intrigued me. Go on.

(Nice bet, by the way. I've stopped wagering, but once I made a similar bet for the 2000 New Jersey Devils and damn I still feel like a genius for that one.)

Still on Cloud Nine, even two days after. Looking forward to the celebration at the Pond, looking forward to hearing where the Cup has been every day. Nothing can kill this buzz.

A big thanks to Earl, who does such a great job representing the Ducks on the blogosphere. See you on the other side of rehab!
