Canada allowed to maintain its delusions

The reputable Hockey News ran a nice cover story about how the Battle of California teams were poised to take power in the new NHL (yes, they even said nice things about the Kings).

Unfortunately, in order to keep up Canadian morale, local boys Jarome Iginla and Bryan McCabe were alternatively promoted up north.

They must be running a feature story about overpaid superstars.

  1. I can give Iginla a free pass for having an off year (unless I'm talking to Flames fans, of course), but McCabe? More proof THN is on crack.

Just out of curiosity, which Canadian team was it in the Finals? Dammit, it's on the tip of my tongue, too. Maybe they should feature those guys.

I don't get the love affair they have with Iginla. Iggy must play NHL 06 on PS2 with the THN staff every summer..GAD!

The bloated part is the photographer's fault. He took a crap photo.

As for pasty, well, he did just arrive from Edmonton.

"Canada Allowed to Maintain Its Delusions"

Geez, Earl. This, coming from a Ducks fan who probably thinks the rest of us won't be making Disney-Emilio-Estevez jokes anymore... :-)

Not to mention, the very fact that Hasek is on the U.S. cover should have prompted you to cover-up this story in shame!

  7. THN has done more than one cover for different regions for every issue for a few years now (I worked there in 2004). They're essentially looking to get the best newstand pickup possible, which means put someone from the Leafs on the cover in Ontario, etc. The Yearbook has as many as five or six different covers (Western U.S., Eastern U.S., Vancouver, Prairies, Central Canada, Quebec).

  8. Ah James, your fact-based logic can little deter me from my blueline-based trashtalk.

In other words, I knew that. But thanks for the heads up anyway.

I appreciate how he positioned the Canadian cover so as to cover up Pronger's wife's hand squeezing his balls

Because if they had this cover in Edmonton they might call for a burning.

  11. I think they had a pool at the THN offices.

"Who can take the worst photograph and still sell copies"

    Well, congrats.

  12. There hasn't been a THN that has pissed me off this much since the "Nobody is watching the Stanley Cup Finals" issue. Oh, yeah, that wasn't that long ago.

I will make this statement, then pay the price

THN shits on its American audience for a dollar.

  13. Is that a double chin on Pronger?
