Sportswriters have created a public persona for him that makes him out to be a saint, and this whole thing shattered that. They responded by simply not writing about it. They're more interested in creating heroes and role models, not telling the truth. Same thing happened with Brett Favre.RudyKellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05935847996131016457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27850362.post-34034933506781682222008-09-28T14:15:00.000-07:002008-09-28T14:15:00.000-07:00I was harsh about the whole situation, and thought...I was harsh about the whole situation, and thought it could have been handled quicker (thus, better), but this was not Brian Burke's fault. His job is to field (ice?) the best team possible, and he was told that Niedermayer needed to be replaced, so he did.

This disaster was not Schneider's fault, either. He was being replaced in Detroit for desperately needed younger blood, and if he had to move again he at least wanted to bring his family home. And as you mentioned, he's not overpaid, and he played damn well (considering the bad situation he was in from December on).

The only ass in this whole situation is Niedermayer, and I am STUNNED that he has not been called on it more. He must have incriminating images of everyone in the SoCal and the NHL to come off like a champ after this total chump move. I mean, this prick's indecision cost the team momentum they needed to repeat (and even Pronger has admitted now that this drama effected the team last year), and two players (Andy MacDonald and now Mathieu) their spots on the team. All so he could do some "soul searching." But I guess his soul is so hard to find, it took that extra time.

I continue to be amazed, memorized almost, at how this is just not acknowledged.

P.S. Thank you Earl. You have covered Schneider very fairly. I'll give of LOTS of credit for that.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04992490958149563644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27850362.post-21999265470844337792008-09-28T13:33:00.000-07:002008-09-28T13:33:00.000-07:00And now that they signed Selanne again, another tr...And now that they signed Selanne again, another trade must be fast approaching. Burke did well with the Schneider situation, I wonder what's going to happen next...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27850362.post-27966413215544566282008-09-27T10:30:00.000-07:002008-09-27T10:30:00.000-07:00Good stuff, Earl. Watch, the Rangers are going to get leprosy or something.RudyKellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05935847996131016457noreply@blogger.com
